And now, for something completely different...

Saturday, we took the train from Bath to York where we were to meet up with the others on our tour on Sunday.  This trek to the north took most of the day, so I won't bore you with the details.

Sunday, we had all day to look around York.  While the focus of the tour is strictly medieval, we decided to explore a different side of York.  Our first stop was the York Railroad Museum.  The collection is one of the largest in the world.  You can imagine that this would take quite large building to house all the fine examples of railroad history.  The focus was definitely on British made engines, but there was also a Japanese Shinkansen and some American made cars.  Seeing all the kids with their parents brought back fond memories of my own boys with their Thomas the Tank Engines, fascinated by the iron horses.

Our other non-medieval tourist activity was the York chocolate history tour.  Apparently the KitKat bar was created in this fair city along with a lot of other chocolate treats.  We took a walk down memory lane to some of the great bars (chocolate that is) of the past and present.  We also took a shot at making our own chocolate pop with custom toppings.  There was lots of sampling along the way which makes for a very happy tour group!

This evening, we met up with our tour group for a reception and dinner.  Fourteen of us were on the Eleanor of Aquitaine trip to France two years ago, which means we didn't experience the awkward small talk that usually fills a new group.  This group was noisy and also happy to include our new friends in the mix.  I have a feeling this is going to be a great trip!
